Deck/Porch Installation – Final Inspection Checklist

This checklist ensures that the deck and porch construction is completed to plan and meets all quality and safety standards before the trade contractor leaves the jobsite. It includes verifying structural integrity, proper installation of components, and site cleanliness. By completing this inspection, the deck and porch are confirmed as safe, secure, and ready for use.

Build the deck per the plan

Build the porch per the plan

Ensure the deck or porch is level

Use 5/4-board bullnosed decking with correct spacing

Securely bolt the deck or porch to the house with no give or sway

Install 4x4 deck posts and ensure they are plumb

Set jacks in concrete and secure them with shackle bolts

Terminate all handrail corners with a 4x4 deck post

Ensure handrails are secure with no give or movement

Secure and properly nail all pickets

Verify the step run and rise are correct

Construct landings per the plan (if required)

Clean the jobsite and remove construction debris and trash to the correct area

Stack excess materials in the garage, field count them, and note them on the purchase order

Count unusable material and note it on the purchase order
