Drywall – Final Inspection Checklist

This checklist ensures that drywall installation meets professional standards for quality, alignment, and finishing. It emphasizes proper fitting of drywall, thorough sanding and smoothing of joints, and securing all fasteners. Additionally, it ensures cleanliness, the absence of gaps or cracks, and the protection of floors and fixtures. Completing this inspection guarantees a seamless, polished result that sets the stage for the next phase of construction while adhering to project specifications.

Fit drywall tightly to walls

Secure drywall firmly, ensuring it does not float and is properly fitted at openings such as closets, windows, doors, and fireplaces

Place nails and screws 16 inches on center

Tape, mud, and sand all fasteners

Ensure joints are smooth and sanded

Avoid gaps, spaces, or broken drywall pieces at electrical boxes

Clean electrical boxes, ensuring they are free of mud and debris

Ensure gaps around tubs, showers, fireboxes, windows, and doors are no larger than 1/4 inch

Inspect for hairline cracks in corners, vaults, trays, and ceiling lines and ensure none are present

Ensure all storage rooms, garages, and other areas have no undrywalled holes

Tape, mud, and sand all drywall joints, including in storage rooms

Ensure paper is smooth and not over-sanded

Verify walls are flat and smooth with no visible bumps in joints from rough edges

Ensure the centerline of the vault is straight and crisp

Verify that tray ceiling lines are straight and crisp

Tape and smooth all corners with no metal corners visible

Ensure temporary handrails and bracing are intact

Inspect for broken windows and ensure there are none

Confirm tubs, showers, sinks, and countertops are covered and undamaged

Remove drywall mud from floors and ensure floors are broom-swept

Clear all debris from the site and remove it to the designated location

Count excess materials and note them on the purchase order
