Fireplaces (Final) – Final Inspection Checklist

This checklist ensures that the fireplace installation meets all quality, safety, and aesthetic standards before the trade contractor leaves the jobsite. It focuses on verifying functionality, precise alignment, and proper finishing of the fireplace components. Additionally, it emphasizes cleanliness and ensures the fireplace is fully operational and visually seamless within the space.

Confirm the fireplace is still level, plumb, and square

Install the screen and verify it is in place

Ensure the flue opens and closes correctly

Check that the fresh air vent works

Install the face level, plumb, and square

Ensure the gap around the face is no more than 1/8 inch

Install the mantle level, square, and snug with no more than 1/8 inch caulked

Install the hearth level, square, and flush with the floor

Install the gas starter and ensure it is checked and working

Install a cap or shroud on the chimney

Clean the house and remove all debris
