Framing – Final Inspection Checklist

This checklist ensures that all framing work meets project specifications and quality standards before the trade contractor leaves the jobsite. It emphasizes structural integrity, alignment, proper measurements, and safety. By completing this inspection, the team ensures that the framing is ready to support subsequent construction phases while maintaining safety and precision.

Install sill sealer insulation at all exterior walls and walls separating the house from the garage, ensuring it extends slightly on each side of 2x4 plates

Use 2x4 pressure-treated wood for all bottom plates, ensuring no untreated material is in contact with concrete

Install washers and nuts on all anchor bolts

Construct all exterior walls with 2x4 studs set 16 inches on center

Construct interior non-load-bearing walls with 2x4 studs set 24 inches on center

Construct interior load-bearing walls with 2x4 studs set 16 inches on center, or 2x6 studs as required by the plans

Use 2x6 studs set 16 inches on center for basement load-bearing walls

Double all top plates with 2x4 utility-grade material

Install headers using 2x10 material, ensuring they are true and level

Secure laminated beams for individual double garage doors

Install 2x10 headers on jacks for individual double garage doors

Ensure brick lintels rest securely on and overlap the outside of jacks over garage doors

Install laminated beams for all triple windows in place of 2x10 material

Verify all window and door openings are level, plumb, square, and built to the correct size

Frame bifold and exterior doors to the manufacturers rough opening specifications, adjusting for flooring type as required

Frame windows 1-1/2 inches wider and higher than the window size or as specified by the manufacturer

Install trusses per the manufacturers layout

Install and nail all joist hangers, ensuring no empty holes remain

Ensure trusses are not cut, notched, nicked, or damaged

Brace all exterior corners with metal lateral bracing

Secure knee walls to prevent give, sway, or movement

Glue and nail all subflooring, ensuring it does not give, creak, or squeak

Install subflooring with a 1/8-inch gap between pieces, filling any larger gaps as needed

Set temporary stairs at each level and install temporary handrails on all stairs

Install safety bracing around openings with drops over 2 feet, blocking openings with an X and horizontal crossbar

Set garden tubs and tub/shower units in designated bathroom areas

Firmly set all nails, ensuring no bent nails protrude into areas receiving finishes

Ensure all studs are straight and free of warping

Install firestops per code in required locations such as chimney chases and under tubs

Add extra blocking for shower stalls, windows, doors, and corners

Install decking with plyclips set 24 inches on center, ensuring decking is level and securely attached

Cut holes for roof vents according to plans

Install exterior sheathing per manufacturers instructions, ensuring no gaps, missing pieces, or broken sections

Sheath gable ends completely and install wind bracing

Frame scuttle holes or disappearing stairs according to plans

Set windows and exterior doors, ensuring they are level, plumb, shimmed, and secure if required by the framer

Install deadwood throughout the house

Brace door thresholds with pressure-treated wood

Remove all temporary bracing, leaving safety bracing in place

Install all required brick lintels to the outside edge of supporting jacks

Remove all trash and debris from the house and site, ensuring the house is broom-swept

Store excess materials in the garage, count them, and note them on the quantity list
