HVAC (Rough) – Final Inspection Checklist

This checklist ensures the HVAC system is installed correctly and meets all quality, functionality, and safety standards before the trade contractor leaves the jobsite. It focuses on the proper placement of units, secure and sealed ductwork, correct thermostat placement, and system readiness for further construction phases.

Set the heating unit(s) with necessary clearances on all sides

Ensure no ductwork is crimped, bent, or damaged to restrict airflow

Verify adequate space in the heating unit area so ductwork does not obstruct maintenance or filter changes

Ensure attic units are properly set and ducts are not crimped, bent, or damaged

Complete and properly seal all piping to the exterior of the house

Secure all ducts to boots

Seal all ducts properly at the heat exchanger

Secure all ductwork

Seal air returns and vents to the floor and place them per plan

Securely cover all floor ducts

Install all gas cutoffs properly and ensure they are accessible (e.g., for fireplaces, clothes dryers, and furnaces)

Verify thermostat locations are correct per the plan

Ensure gas pressure is adequate

Pass the rough HVAC inspection

Broom-sweep the house and remove debris

Ensure no debris is left on the lot
