Insulation – Final Inspection Checklist

This checklist ensures that insulation installation meets quality and performance standards before the trade contractor leaves the jobsite. It emphasizes proper fitting, sealing, and insulation coverage for walls, ceilings, and floors to achieve optimal energy efficiency. Additionally, it focuses on ensuring the site is clean and free of debris.

Inspect all windows to confirm they are intact

Verify that tubs, showers, and other fixtures are undamaged

Ensure all temporary handrails and safety bracing are intact

Seal all penetrations to the outside

Place a minimum of three rulers in the attic, ensuring they are in contact with the ceiling decking

Fit all wall batts snugly at the top, bottom, and sides, and fasten them correctly to cover all areas

Install batt insulation in vaults and tray ceilings

Ensure insulation is of the correct R-value in all areas

Insulate basement walls, including the block foundation, if the basement is finished

Insulate ceilings of garages and basements beneath heated areas

Insulate walls between unheated and heated areas

Weatherstrip all attic access areas

Seal ceiling plates and headers

Place insulation behind wiring, ensuring it is not stuffed around or covering wiring

Ensure insulation behind receptacle and switch boxes does not block the front

Place insulation in jacks and headers of all windows and exterior doors

Clean the house and broom-sweep all areas

Remove all building debris to the dumpster
