Landscaping – Final Inspection Checklist

This checklist ensures that all landscaping work meets quality and aesthetic standards before the trade contractor leaves the jobsite. It emphasizes proper grading, water drainage, and the health and appearance of sod, seed, trees, and shrubs. Additionally, it includes confirming the cleanliness and overall presentation of the yard.

Remove and stack formboards in the garage

Verify that drives and walkways are undamaged

Finalize swales and berms

Ensure there is a minimum of 6 inches of fall within 10 feet of the house

Verify a minimum of 8 inches between the bottom of siding and final grade in all areas

Confirm water flow and direction are correct

Ensure there are no low areas that allow water pooling

Ensure the yard has a level and attractive appearance

Verify there are no hills, gullies, washes, low spots, or bulges in yard areas

Inspect sod to ensure it is healthy, with no gaps, and that it has been stapled and rolled

Seed the yard and confirm seed is visible when straw is moved aside

Apply fertilizer and confirm it is visible when straw is moved aside

Ensure sod and seed have been watered

Neatly edge planter areas and apply pine straw

Firmly plant, water, and inspect trees and shrubs to ensure they look healthy

Apply pine straw to areas not requiring grass, ensuring they are neat in appearance

Clean the yard and ensure it is free of trash and debris
